Metadata Technology North America Inc. (the “Company”) is pleased to announce that its Vice-President, Mr. Pascal Heus, on behalf of the Open Data Foundation, will present at the “National Children’s Study Metadata Repository Workshop” at the Natcher Conference Center on the NIH Campus in Bethesda, MD in January 23rd, 2012.

He will join Bill Block (Cornell University/CISER), Tim Mulcahy (NORC at University of Chicago), Jeremy Iverson (Algenta) in a presentation and panel discussion around “Using Metadata in Data Archiving, Data Analysis and Study Evaluation”.

The goal of this workshop is to exchange knowledge and experiences in the use of metadata in the data lifecycle of studies, inform the development and population of the Metadata Repository for the National Children’s Study, and promote connections and collaborations between metadata curators and users. This workshop will also be available on live NIH Videocast.

SDMX and the UN MDGs

Metadata Technology recently gave an SDMX training course at The Department of Statistics (DOS) in Jordan, who hosted a four-day Workshop on SDMX/DevInfo and MDG (Millenium Development Goals) Data Reporting, organized by the Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA) in collaboration with the United Nations Statistics Division of New York, and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The US National Science Foundation (NSF) recently announced the launch of the SED Tabulation Engine, a pilot data tool that the to provide access to selected variables from the Survey of Earned Doctorates. The application was developed through a contract from the National Science Foundation’s National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) to NORC at University of Chicago, with a subcontract to Metadata Technology North America.

NSF launches SED Tabulation Engine

The US National Science Foundation (NSF) recently announced the launch of the SED Tabulation Engine, a pilot data tool that the National Science Foundation is testing to provide access to selected variables from the Survey of Earned Doctorates, to complement the existing WebCASPAR tool. The tabulation engine includes a disclosure control mechanism that protects the identity of respondents when using the gender, citizenship, and race/ethnicity variables.

The application was developed through a contract from the National Science Foundation’s National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) to NORC at University of Chicago, with a subcontract to Metadata Technology North America. The solution leverages the Berkeley SDA tabulation engine, the Tau-Argus disclosure control package, the Google Web Toolkit, and Java technologies such as the Spring framework and Apache Tomcat.

We are particularly thankful to NCSES staff, Tim Mulcahy (NORC), and Anco Hundepool (Statistics Netherlands) for their help and support throughout the project.
