Our trainers are experienced implementers of SDMX and DDI, and have had an active part in designing and implementing the standards themselves. With this unparalleled expertise, they combine many years of providing training at different levels, for different groups within a broad range of organizations.
From executive and managerial courses on the importance and benefit of metadata management to overview courses for users and implementers, to detailed courses aimed at system architects and developers, we can help you gain the needed skills in working with data and metadata management systems based on international standards.
Our expert trainers simplify the complexity of DDI and other related standards. Our teachers were intimately involved with the development of the standards from its earliest stage, thus having insight unlike any other company.
We offer four distinct modules aimed at different audiences, from short informative sessions for high-level managers to extended workshops for developers. We encourage you to view our module outlines to check which training session matches your organization’s needs.
- Business-Managerial Module
- This concise yet informative module is aimed towards an organization’s business team, providing necessary background and practical instruction on implementing metadata standards.
- Data Users/Researchers Module
- This module is suited for individual users and researchers, especially in economics, statistics, and other social and behavioral sciences (? Should we limit ourselves to these groups, or omit this statement?) . Comprehensive information on metadata, XML, and the standards like DDI and SDMX.
- Data Producers/Archivists Module
- For those in the data production and archiving field, metadata standards are of great importance. This course will go into detail about the different XML technologies associated with DDI and SDMX.
- Data Architects Module
- This course will provide developers with in depth skills in DDI and SDMX from our experts in the field. The course will include hands-on workshops and further discussion of technical metadata standards.
Training we can provide you

We have trained over 250 people since 2006 in the use of SDMX standards.
We have given on-site training to a variety of organisations and also given many courses at an external training venue at Farnham Castle in the UK (Farnham Castle’s conferences brochure pdf).
Our Trainers
Metadata Technology’s trainers are leading experts in many of today’s emerging standards, with an emphasis on the Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX). Importantly, not only are Metadata Technology’s trainers experienced teachers, many are also involved in software developers and implementors of these standards. This experience gives students the benefit of practical, real-world knowledge.
Our Courses
In our classes, we cover both the standards themselves and the software tools which are currently available, providing students with an up-to-date view of how to approach implementation within their own organizations. Whenever possible, we have hands-on exercises to let students see how the tools themselves work. Our courses cover everything from high-level overviews suitable for executives and managers to hands-on implementation training for developers.
In the past four years we have trained over 250 people in a variety of organisations: international organisations, UN agencies, central banks, national statistical institutes.

On-site Training
Most of our training is given on-site at the organisation’s premises. This is an extremely effective way of training many people in a single organisation. Unless the training is targetted specifically at developers, such as those available on the use of the Metadata Technology SDMX Beand and Core Components, then we can tailor a course that is suitable for both development staff and non-technical staff.
External courses
From time to time we organise courses at an external location where staff from a variery organisations attend. So, if you have just one or two people who need to be trained then this is a more suitable and cost-effective way of receiving training.

European Statistical Training Programme (ESTP)
Metadata Technology have trained staff from almost all of the National Statistical Insitutes of the European Union as part of the ESTP. We are pleased that we have been selected to continue the SDMX training in the new phase of ESTP starting later in 2011.
