Registry Implementation and Operation
A registry is a database of metadata. It's not the same metadata that might be held in a metadata repository. The metadata in the registry drives the systems that use it - data collection systems, data portal systems, data warehouse systems. Some of this metadata describes data structures, some indexes registered data sets, some indexes metadata held in a metadata repository that explains things about the data to help data interpretation and analysis.
The registry needs careful design to ensure good performance: the internal design will depend upon the use to which the registry will be put. The SDMX version 2.0 standard defines a set of XML interfaces to support data and metadata structures defined in the SDMX Information Model. It is interesting to note that multi-dimensional structures in DDI and the metadata in DDI can equally be supported by the same set of SDMX registry interfaces.
Metadata Technology have in depth knowledge of both the SDMX and the DDI Information Models and the working of a registry: its team of consultants have built and operated SDMX registries for a variety of requirements. We can do the same for your organisation.
We can operate the registry on your behalf thus saving you the need to train scarce technical resources in this area. Even if you want to operate it yourself, we can train your staff how to do this, and we can help you to design the optimum registry structure for the information you want to hold.
