Dear MT,

How can we prevent the message “unsupported message group” from showing up when we try to upload example SDMX files to FusionRegistry? What does this message mean in the context of FR?

Best,

Rob

Hi Rob,

If you are trying to upload a SDMX 2.0 MessageGroup file, then this is not supported by the Registry.  The Registry supports RegistryInterface files and Structure files, not data or metadata sets.

Matt,

Thanks for your reply. I can upload structure files to the registry now. I am trying to create example files for each FR supported structure and to import structure files e.g. DSD's and MSD's that are publicly available from e.g. FAO. OECD, FAO, IMF, NY FED, etc. More specifically I want to use publicly available DSD's and MSD's that are relevant for taxation research. Feedback is appreciated!

To create examples I would use XML Spy, or equivalent such as Oxygen, to author the XML.  I would link a new XML document to the 2.1 SDMX schema (Message.xsd is the top level schema). Linking this should give you type ahead (auto complete) meaning you can author XML very easily.  I would create either a Structure Document, or a RegistryInterface document and under the structures element, just start creating sample codelists, concepts etc etc. The schema will guide you and stop you from creating something invalid (well, ass best it can).

If it is public structures you are after, you will find the OECD has a web service as does the IMF and ECB (not sure about FAO/NY-FED).  You can use these web services to query for structures, but you can find that sometimes the structures are not 100% SDMX valid and the Registry will not accept them.  You can also use Fusion Weaver to validate these files if you wish, it uses the same underlying technology.  You will also find that these services do not contain structures such as Hierarchical Code lists, Process, Reporting Taxonomies, Constraints etc etc..(the last time I looked).  The contain mainly DSDs and structures that a DSD references, such as Codelists.

IMF Web Service:

OECD Web Service:

I may be able to get more information for you tomorrow.

Hi Matt,

Thanks again!  Good to know that structures such as Hierarchical Code lists, Process, Reporting Taxonomies, Constraints are not available (yet). Valid examples of Reporting Taxonomies and the use of Hierarchical Code lists (see below) are of interest to us.

I want to 'capture' similar relationships as in this example where a relationship between three Indicators: Blood Safety (calculated value), Units of Blood screened (Numerator), and Units of Blood Donated (Denominator) is ‘coded/captured’ See: ** you don’t have permission to see this link **

I am also looking for a publicly available ISO country code file. I remember this issue was also brought up at the SDMX users forum.

Best,

Rob

Hi Rob,

Concerning the example of an HCL for blood related indicators, do you need some assitance? If you send me the hierarchy you wish to specify then I can see if I can develop an HCL to support it – a small example will be sufficient. I will need the code lists (just an extract) and the hierarchy you want. You can supply the code lists as CSV or in a spreadsheet.

Note that the Fusion Registry GUI supports the development of an HCL. I have made a small example of HCL using country codes and also a powerpoint with some diagrams. If you send your e-mail address to me at ** you don’t have permission to see this link ** I will send these.

Best
